Replacement of the Mount Pleasant and 11th Street car lines by buses was scheduled for the fall of 1961, by which time another 75 air-conditioned buses were to be on hand. Because of a strike by General Motors the delivery of new buses were delayed so 50 more GM TDH-5105 buses were acquired in September 1961 from Houston's Rapid Transit Lines. They were built in 1956; because of the Texas heat they were ordered without heaters so those had to be installed as part of their preparation for service in Washington. These coaches were numbered 5325-5374 in the D.C. Transit roster.
